A 28mm Daimyo command group depicting Hosokawa Tadaoki and Katagiri Katsumoto accompanied by standard bearers and elite samurai retainers. The set includes a striking mix of named characters, command figures and bodyguards, making it an impressive centerpiece for a Sengoku-period Japanese army.
Hosokawa Tadaoki is shown wearing a kabuto decorated with pheasant feathers. A powerful Toyotomi daimyo, he later supported the Tokugawa. Katagiri Katsumoto, also a loyal Toyotomi supporter, is depicted wearing armour covered in bear fur.
The three elite hatamoto guards wear unusual and distinctive armours more often associated with daimyo or high-ranking samurai. One wears an eboshi kabuto and carries a sashimono showing a burning arrow. Another wears an unusual kawari kabuto with a cow-head style crest and carries a nagamaki. The last wears a rare kabuto type modelled on a human forehead and nio dou armour, representing an old wandering ronin and intended as Sasaki Kojiro, the famous master swordsman who served as Hosokawa’s master at arms.
Suitable for historical wargaming, Samurai armies, collectors and dioramas.
